Welcome to X-Men: Unhinged Evolution!

We are an alternate universe X-Men: Evolution roleplaying game that accepts canon/original characters and fun, creative writers. The time is set before season 1.

Mutants are not yet known to the public, but when superpowers are in the hands of hormonal teenagers who knows how long that will last. Professor Xavier is doing his best to delay the process by homing these young mutants and teaching them to control their powers. Magneto and Mystique are doing something similar.

So far, the only mutants living at the Xavier Institute are Ororo and Logan, whereas the Brotherhood of Bayville Boarding House is virtually unoccupied.
Who will be next? Who will be the X-Men? Who will be the Brotherhood?

You decide.

Happy roleplaying!

Location: Outside Deerfield High
Date: Friday, January 13

She had a run in her faded red and white candy striped stockings. Her busted, scuffed brown boots were untied and sloppy, and one had split at the toe earlier that day, leaving her with wet-foot all day, and she was pretty sure one of her toes needed to be amputated. And like, the big toe, an important one. Her heavy, purple valor skirt draped down to her knees, with the hem worn and leaving frizzy ugliness to splay out every which way. Her mustard yellow shirt with a white and orange band logo - The Festering Boils - was a few sizes too big, and had a nice, ripe blue ink stain down near her hip. She wore a black and red scarf that made her look a bit portlier than she was. Her oversized army-green jacket had holes and scuffs and a big fuzzy hood, where most of the fuzz had worn into little jacket dreads. Glasses for days, and greasy, curly, boring hair. Her makeup consisted of a splotch of spaghetti sauce still smeared out from the corner of her mouth up her cheek, and she had bits of lunch still in her hair, hours later. She looked like that, and she missed the bus. Of course someone was going to say something.

"Why don't you try some Maybelline, Pryde?"

It came from a pair of girls trudging through the snow toward the student parking lot. Kitty was sitting on an old wooden bench outside of the school bus ring, waiting for the public bus to stop by the school, which some students took home after extracurriculars.
Kitty, despite all her motivation to graduate high and attend Berkley or whatever, had no extracurriculars, she was just late. Probably a subconscious decision, considering the bus fiasco a few days ago, the confusion surrounding how all those kids survived, and Kitty's paranoia that anyone might impossibly suspect her as the culprit behind her entire bus and all the kids becoming verifiable ghosts and not crashing into that flipped big-rig.

She looked up at them as they passed her, flicked them off proudly, and then dropped her hand defeated when she remembered she was wearing heavy-knit Squirtle mittens, and it just looked like she had awkwardly waved to them. She opted out of a verbal reply after that modest embarrassment, and instead dove her hands into her basic blue backpack, fishing around her for phone. She felt like she should let her parents know she'd be a little late, but couldn't quite make her thumbs type her password in through the mittens. She inevitably gave up because it was way more work biting her gloves off her hands than she felt like expelling, because it didn't even really matter. She just wanted to look busy incase someone else decided to call her out on her bullshit in the parking lot and she couldn't flick them off either.

She saw the public bus peeling around the corner, a little faster than it should have, but she was happy, eagerly trying to zip up her backpack with her mittened hands, but failing. She just pulled the straps over her shoulders and hoped nothing would fall out. That's when a splatter of slush kicked up from under the bus' tire and smacked her in the lap. She didn't really care, but it was just another issue with the day.

As the door opened, she came up to the side to ask the driver, "Are you going to Fat Ham?" It was the name of her street. And when the driver shook his head, Kitty relented and plopped right back down on the bench. She'd have another twenty minutes to wait, at the very least.

Today was a boring day. A regular day. But unfortunately, she had the pangs of paranoia still circulating through her mind about what had transpired only days before. Kitty had done okay hiding her mutant abilities for a few years now. Every so often something weird would happen, and her friends would laugh it off, but that bus scandal was something brand new. She'd acted on impulse. The big-rig had already lost control and flipped, blocking the roadway. Her bus driver couldn't seem to get any traction with the brakes, and it looked as though they were all going to die. They should have died. They should've crashed and died dead, because that's what would have happened had Kitty not been there.

She'd activated her ghosty power thing, and turned the entire damn bus intangible, with everyone in it. She knew she could cause other objects and people to go intangible, but she had never tried with something so big. In fact, she fell asleep almost immediately after and drooled over down her sweater until they got to her road. Somebody had to wake her up and everything.

So, while she was grateful today had been so boring and regular, she was still all fidgety every time somebody decided to address her. Even if it was about shampoo. That bus better hurry...

Mystique, currently disguised as Principal Darkholme, wasn’t at Bayville High anymore, but she still strutted through the hallway of a foreign high school in Deerfield, Illinois as though she owned the place, her high heels clicking against the floor. It was empowering, never having to worry about getting caught for anything, always being able to weasel herself out of a bad situation. It was what made her dangerous. It was what made her Magneto’s right hand woman. And it was why she was here right now. If she didn’t have her shape-shifting powers, she wouldn’t have been able to spy on Charles Xavier and find out who he would attempt to recruit next - nor would she even have the power to sway her to their side.

The simple fact was that kids didn’t tend to listen to adults, no matter how right they were. They only listened to each other. Which was why she decided to bring her newest recruits, Germaine and Nolan, along, despite their complete and utter lack of field experience. Plus, they might come in handy in case the X-Men showed up to thwart her plans.

Were they absolutely essential to the mission, though? Not at all.

Smirking, she painted a picture in her brain of one of the freshman girls she had seen one day in her office at Bayville, made a few facial alterations so the new mutant would never see her again should she decide to come to Bayville, and voila. Within less than two seconds, her body shrunk in height, her clothes became much less professional, her heels turning into athletic sneakers, her glasses disappeared, and her short brown hair became long and blonde. Her intention had been to take the appearance of the typical popular girl, which she did - because what young girl wouldn’t want to be friends with a popular girl?

Here, Kitty, Kitty, thought Mystique with wrinkled brows and calculating eyes as she continued down the hall. It wasn’t a large school. It might take time, but she’d find her. As far as she knew, this mutant was powerful enough to save an entire school bus full of people - and Mystique wanted her. Fortunately, she had gotten to Illinois first, but she knew the X-Men would arrive soon to collect her.

Realizing she must have already gathered her things from her locker and left, Mystique followed a crowd of students out of the building and to what looked like the student parking lot. Maybe Germaine and Nolan already found her? She wondered as she peered around the area for any suspicious activity. Just as she was about to pull out her cell-phone, her gaze fell onto the form of a seemingly nervous-looking young girl sitting alone on a wooden bench. She wore big glasses, had mousy head of brown hair, and as soon as she got a closer look at her face it was confirmed. This was the mutant she was looking for.

She took a seat on the bench beside her and offered her a friendly smile. "Hi. My name is Risty. I'm kind of... a fan?"

Here Kitty was, just waiting for a public bus so she could disappear home, pull on some jammies, get a fat sandwich, and play Terraria on her computer, and she was being attacked again by The Perfect Teenager.

QUOTE (Barbie)
"Hi. My name is Risty. I'm kind of... a fan?"

Maybe not attacked.

"I don't need anymore shampoo." Wait what? Risty. She hadn't heard that name around here. It wasn't a very big school, and a name like Risty on a girl who looked like that wouldn't have been something she could've ignored, right? And did she say fan? She turned her head the opposite direction, aimlessly looking at all the nothing on her left, and sure enough, it was just the two of them. The girl was talking to her.

Kitty snorted. But like one of those incredulous snorts. "Sorry, what? A fan?" A fan? Oh, the band? She looked down at her stained, old shirt. The Festering Boils logo, while wrinkled and barely visible, may have been something immediately recognizable to someone who loved them. "Yeah, they're okay. My dad liked them, they're all dead now." Well, that would probably send Risty right off, now wouldn't it? "Not my dad, he's fine. He's... well, he's an accountant, so he's probably not fine-fine, but like, he's alive and stuff."

She looked back behind them. The girl had come alone, and it looked like she'd come from the school. "Sorry, do you go here? I mean, it's a small school and I don't..." she trailed, "Are you new or something?" Risty would learn soon enough that Kitty hated those fiber-chicks just as much as they hated her.

Nolan and Germaine stood near a lamppost in the hybrid traffic circle slash parking lot of some high school. His hands were tucked firmly into the pockets of his jacket which zipped all the way up under his chin. A beanie on his head held his hair down firmly about his ears and neck. While his eyes darted shiftily back and forth.

Only a week had passed since the big incident. Since then, Nolan hadn’t been in contact with his family. He’d been forced into getting a new phone altogether, actually. His new living situation was fine – they were paying him which was a huge bonus. Nolan had gone to school two days out of five (new attendance record?). But to top it all off in a twist of events he was back here in the mid-west and feeling jittery as all heck. Naturally, news had broke of what happened at the St. Paul police department but with very little explanation or credible witnesses. All records at the station of Nolan had been erased and as far as Nolan was aware no pictures had surfaced revealing his involvement at all. Still, he couldn’t help but feel paranoid.

“So, why exactly do we need to be here?” Couldn’t he be at home on the couch. Or in bed. It wasn’t in his nature to go on missions, air quotes, especially when he was relegated to the role of watchdog. Not that he’d like to be the one doing the full-on missioning. That’d be too much work. A group of students walked by and Nolan ducked his gaze. Mystique better hurry up and find this new mutant girl soon. He was getting bored and nervous.

He needed to find something distracting. Nolan’s eye spotted a cute blonde at the bus stop quite a ways off and he elbowed Ger lightly, “What do ya think of her, buddy? Cuter than the girls at Bayville? Imagine she’s the mutant we’re looking for.” He flicked his head towards the bench. “The blonde one not that other chick.” Nah, no way was he talking about that other girl.

This time A was prepared. Recruiting Noah hadn’t gone as smoothly as Aaliyah had hoped or expected it to and Aaliyah chalked that up to a lack of preparation. She wouldn’t be making the same mistake twice. The Professor had taken her and Noah out of school with an excused absence today in order to make travel arrangements to Illinois. The blackbird was fast, but not fast enough. Therefore, Ali took the opportunity last night to push her homework to the side and created a brochure instead. Yes, a brochure. One promoting the benefits of Xavier’s mansion for young mutants. It was on light blue glossed paper and it was thoroughly informative; a quick breakdown of any questions and answers some young mutant would have.

She clutched the brochure between her gloved hands as she got onto her tiptoes and scanned the parking area. “Do you see her Noah?” She asked the brown haired boy. She still thought he was cute enough, but she wasn’t sure he had the gumption to suit her. And, he was practically her only friend at the moment, she shouldn’t try and complicate things. Aaliyah had to focus.

Aaliyah nearly squealed when she spotted her, Katherine, sitting at the bus stop. “There she is,” she pointed excitedly and dragged Noah along behind her. Ali slowed her pace as they got nearer. She patted down her jacket in what she believed was a professional manner. Aaliyah cleared her throat. Firstly, they would have to get the new mutant away from this blonde girl, “Excuse me, Katherine, do you mind if we can speak to you ove-“

Like a loudspeaker, Xavier’s voice popped into both A and Noah’s thoughts. ‘Stop what you’re doing you two. There is something not right here. Someone is with our new friend. Another mutant.

“Wh-what?” Aaliyah glared at the blonde sitting next to Kitty on the bench. She glanced down at her hands, then softly, “But my brochure…”

Germaine let out a frustrated sigh as he tapped his foot impatiently against the ground. He hated waiting. Not doing anything. Just standing there. What was the point of them coming if Mystique wasn't going to let them do anything? Even if they did spot the mutant girl first, they were given strict orders not to engage until it was time. Would it ever be time? Not to mention how damn cold it was. Germaine rolled his eyes and pulled out his cell-phone. No messages from Mystique. No messages from anyone, really. Not since he left Chicago. Not even his own parents seemed to care about him. Maybe it was because they now knew he was a mutant?

Ugh, Magneto and Mystique were right. Humans would never accept mutant kind. Not even his own family wanted to speak to him... Ger balled his hands into fists at the thought, anger coursing through his veins. It wasn't fair. None of it was fair.

Relief came in the form of a fellow mutant admitting he was just as bored as he was. "Don't ask me. I think we're just back-up. If something doesn't happen soon, though..." But then how would he get back to Bayville? "You know what? I kind of hope the X-Men show up. At least then things will get interesting." And then he could prove to Mystique just how useful he could be.

QUOTE (Nolan Olson)
“What do ya think of her, buddy? Cuter than the girls at Bayville? Imagine she’s the mutant we’re looking for.”

Wrinkling his brows, Ger's first thought was: What the fuck? How could you be thinking about girls at a time like this? Then he saw her, the blonde, and Germaine couldn't help but smirk. "Her? Yeah, she's alright." Oh, who was he kidding? She was hot. The girl next to her wasn't too bad, either. Wait a second... Wasn't that the girl they were looking for? Brown hair, big glasses... "Dude, I think that's her. The girl we're looking for. We should--" Contact Mystique? Nah. "Come on, let's go, before she gets away."

It might not be her, but there was only one way to find out. Without giving it a second thought, Ger broke into a fast walk toward the bench where the girl was sitting. But then someone else approached her, someone from Bayville High. Aaliyah? Ger lifted a brow in confusion and slowed down to a halt. Something wasn't right. They were in Illinois. What were the odds of the annoying smart girl who always raised her hand in class being in Illinois at the same time-- Merda.

"Nolan," he spat out, spinning around to face him, then whispered, "It's happening. The X-Men are here. What do we do?"

---

Mystique quirked her brow at Kitty's comment, then held back a smirk. Clearly, she had been a victim of bullying at this school. Perfect. That would make her want to leave more, join the Brotherhood. Mystique nodded and smiled to confirm she was a fan, then secretly regretted her word choice after the young mutant started rambling about her father. Before Mystique could explain herself, two students approached the bench as though to speak with Kitty.

Taking a small breath of calming air, Mystique tried not to jump to any conclusions, but she didn't immediately rule out the possibility these two were Xavier's newest recruits. Which meant she had to act fast. "I don't go here. I came from New York to speak with you," she replied, tucking an unruly lock of her now-blonde hair behind her ear. "I know what happened yesterday. I know you saved those people. You're a hero..." She then leaned in close and whispered in her ear. "But I'm afraid I'm not the only one who knows. Others will want to take you. Mutant hunters. They might already be here."

Well, this conversation certainly took a rather emphatic turn. One moment, Risty's a fan of an old, stained band t-shirt. The next, she's a fan of Kitty herself, being all knowy about her "saving" people and being a mutant. Is that what she was called? She was a mutant?

Kitty shoved her unnecessary, bulky glasses up her nose, eyes a little wide at all this crazy Risty was spewing. Mutant hunters? After Kitty?

"I didn't-" she wanted to protest the idea that she was somehow responsible for the bus incident. She had trained herself to deny. Anything and everything to do with her powers. Deny. Lie. It was maybe the only thing she could lie about. "The weird thing? That... I know, how weird, right? That wasn't me, though." But those bits about being taken. But mutant hunters.

"Hunters." She was beginning to think Risty was just full of shit. "Like with guns and stuff?" She let out a little huff, "H'okay, Risty. Sure. Abso-fuckin-lutely." Somebody had to be playing a prank on her. She'd been surrounded by people before, in a similar situation, but that was just the CIA. Risty here, she was a kid, probably not much older than Kitty. And she was alone. Or... she was just a second ago...

Kitty turned her head, and suddenly there were people there that just weren't there a few moments ago. And on top of that, all their eyes were trained on her and Risty.

Paran-PARANOIA!

Okay, Kitty. Gee tee eff oh! Move your legs, kay, thank you!

"I'm gonna go... away, now..."

She stood. She didn't want to be too eager. She couldn't get away easily, but out in the open like this, they couldn't try to take her, right? Still, she had to be as naturally proactive as she could, and that meant a steady pace. She pulled her bag around from her shoulders and fished her phone out again, biting a mitten off her hand to type. She could hitch a ride home. Or call the police. But what if this was the police? But like a weird, corrupt part of them with like... devil worshippers and mutant hunters and stuff.

What the hell is a mutant hunter?

Who could she call?

Paranoia!

Nolan buried his hands deeper into his pockets, glancing away from the girls on the benches. No cops, that was good.

QUOTE (Germaine Caruso)
"Dude, I think that's her. The girl we're looking for. We should—“ Ger paused. “Come on, let's go, before she gets away."

“Go? Do what?” Be conspicuous. Hell no. He’d had enough of that last weekend. Just standing out here in the parking lot area was bugging him out. Unfortunately, his pyromaniac brother from another hood was already stomping away towards the dirty looking brunette chick. “Ger, come on, Ger. Wait.” Fortunately, Nolan didn’t have to try too hard to get Germaine to stop.

QUOTE (Germaine Caruso)
"Nolan, It's happening. The X-Men are here. What do we do?"

“Uh...come again?” Nolan had literally no idea what Ger was talking about. Well, okay, not entirely literally, he did remember Magneto lecturing them at one point about the X-men. Apparently, they were other mutants living in Bayville. The place was the mutant promise land right now. And the X-men…they weren’t too popular with Magneto and his other boss, Mystique.

But, Nolan didn’t see any X’s anywhere.

“Dude, Ger, are you tripping?” The kid was sure as hell freaking Nolan out. Nolan glanced back to the bus stop bench. “Shit, man. She’s walking away. Are you sure that’s her?” And she was doing it rather quickly. “Should we stop her?” They were asked to stay as guards, but that also meant guarding her so she didn’t get away right? Who was Nolan kidding, he wasn’t going to stop her. Ger might, “Go, quick. Get her, man. She looks like she's about to sprint.” Nolan pulled his arms out of his pockets and gave Germaine an encouraging shove towards the girl.

The idea of recruiting another mutant to the Xavier Institute excited Noah. Mostly because it meant he would have someone other than Aaliyah to talk to. Not that he didn't like Aaliyah. She was just so... on top of everything. All the time. Twenty four seven. Noah could understand wanting to overachieve in one or two things, like swimming, but in everything? She made a freakin' brochure of the Institute for crying out-loud! Who in the right mind gave themselves extra chores to do?

Noah glanced at the brochure in Aaliyah's hands and let out a small sigh as he walked alongside her toward the school parking lot, where the Professor said she'd be. He guessed he should be more appreciative. After all, there was a small chance "Kitty Pryde" or whatever her name was would say no to their offer. Noah almost said no, and he would have too if he had more control over his powers. Maybe a brochure would come in handy?

But they had to find her first. Noah shook his head when Aaliyah asked if he had seen her and continued looking. Several minutes passed before Aaliyah finally spotted her. Finally, Noah thought as he followed her to the bench, where Kitty and another girl were sitting. The two seemed to be engaged in a conversation, not that Aaliyah cared...

And then, all of a sudden, the Professor's voice boomed in his head. Wincing, Noah forced himself to be okay with the eerie idea that someone was poking around in his head, invading his privacy, for the sake of the mission. He used to think his moms barging into his room without permission was bad; this was ten times worse.

Taking a deep breath, he thought back to what the Professor told him and realized the only other person next to Kitty besides Noah and Aaliyah was the blonde girl on the bench. Which meant she was a mutant, too. Noah raised a suspicious brow as he watched her whisper something into Kitty's ear, but tried to stay positive. This was a good thing, right? It meant they could hit two birds with one stone! Didn't it?

Noah didn't know what the two were talking about (guns and stuff?), but it seemed to make Kitty uneasy for whatever reason. And then she looked directly at him. Quickly, Noah mustered a smile, trying to appear as friendly as possible - but it didn't work. Is there something on my face? Noah wondered, feeling the need to look at himself in the mirror before realizing Kitty was more weirded out than disgusted. But by what?

Whatever it was, it made her want to get up and leave. She's getting away! Noah thought, his eyes widening in surprise and panic. Unsure of what to do, he looked to Aaliyah, hoping she had all the answers. She usually did.

Aaliyah raised her eyes soberly from her brochure only to see that Katherine Pryde the mutant they were here to invite to the X-Mansion was walking away. Aaliyah called out after her, “Hey, wait!” Then turned quickly to Noah giving him a slight punch in the arm, “Dangit, Noah! Couldn’t you have said something?” It was totally his fault that she was getting away from them now and had nothing to do with A being distracted. “We need to stay after her. We can’t have a repeat of the swim meet.” Yikes, burn.

Aaliyah started to follow rapidly but paused to admonish the blonde on the bench as she and Noah rushed by it. “I don’t know who you are, but you ruined this,” A held up her X-men brochure crumpling it slightly in her frustration. As in…see what you’ve done? “This was supposed to go smoothly. And you’ve made everything a mess,” she huffed accusingly then continued stomping after Kitty. “Katherine…Katherine,” Aaliyah called out behind her.

But…hold on… “Ger?” A recognized the teen running up in front of Kitty trying to stop her. Was it really that jerk from chem? This was just infuriating! “No, no!” She caught up to Germaine, “You don’t get to do this. We were here first!” He certainly didn’t have a brotherhood brochure!

Germaine gave Nolan an incredulous look. "Are you fuckin' kidding me? Weren't you paying attention? The X-Men... the..." There was no time to explain. The girl was getting away and it was clear Nolan would be no help. As always, Germaine would have to do everything himself. Sighing, he said, "Just call Mystique and tell her we've found the girl," then broke into a sprint towards her.

Sure, Mystique had given them strict orders not to engage with Kitty in any way unless otherwise told, but things had changed. The X-Men were here and already trying to sway her to their side. He had to do something. He couldn't just wait around for her to show up, wherever she was.

Ger was only a couple yards away from Kitty when Aaliyah suddenly swerved in front him. He skidded to a halt, nearly plowing her over. He really should have. Seriously, why didn't he? "I don't give a fuck. Now get out of my way," Germaine snapped, resisting the urge to shove her aside. If there was one thing he couldn't stand it was when someone stood between him and his goals.

But she wouldn’t budge.

Ger narrowed his eyes, feeling a surge of anger, and the next thing he knew the space between them erupted in flames.

Eyes wide in surprise, Ger felt a rush of heat hit his face and fell backwards onto the pavement. Shit. Am I on fire? Ger thought as he frantically patted himself down. Whether Aaliyah was okay or not, he didn’t care, or at least that was what he told himself.

“See? That’s what happens when people get in my way,” he spat out as he scrambled back up to his feet. At least this bought him some time to speak with-- “Kitty!” As soon as the future Brotherhood member came into view, Germaine made a beeline for her, wanting to get to her before Aaliyah did. If there was one thing he could beat know-it-all Aaliyah at, it was this.

“Hey, I can help you. My name is Germaine, but you can call me Ger,” he said, his lips curling into what he thought to be a seductive grin.

Maybe this Risty girl was telling the truth, after all. People were chasing her.

Chasing her.

Chasing her.

Some greaser popped out in front of her on the path, and then behind her was some girl with one of those pregnancy prevention pamphlets, and Kitty was just doubled over in confusion in this moment. Not knowing what the fuck was super frustrating for anybody, but maybe especially her. She could write a computer's entire coding system, but when it came to peopling, she was just a big fat mess.

She had two options. Turning to head north would take her toward a little shopping area, but it was a good half mile up the road, and she didn't want people chasing her for half a mile. So, she chose option B by default.

She pivoted after checking back over her shoulder and shot south, legs carrying her as fast as they could with all the heavy material weighing her down. She still held her phone in her bared hand, the mitten still stuffed in her mouth. It was a blessing in disguise, really. She'd eventually have to hide, and had that mitten not been plugging her face, she was bound to say something hysterical and inappropriate.

She was going toward the back of the school. Somewhere in the woods back there was a little construction zone. An unfinished addition to the school, abandoned when they lost funding. If she could lead people back there, there were all sorts of places to hide and eventually sneak away from, right? But at some point, she realized she was hearing her name. All these people seemed to know exactly who she was, even though she'd never met or seen any of them. How was that possible? They were only kids, that shouldn't have been possible.

Just as she was about to fly off a curb down the way and clear across the now empty parking lot, she slowed her pace and turned. A giant ball of fire erupted between the two vehemently following her. Kitty had one foot on the curb, one off, and she screamed out at the sight of it. "OH MY GOD!" She was one of those girls, huh? "OH MY GOD!" Yep. "YOU'RE ON FIRE!" Her instincts had kicked in, instincts to keep gee tee eff oh-ing, but unfortunately, in her rush to scramble away, she hadn't realized that her right foot, the one off the curb, had wedged into some old, hardened snow. She fell back, ass and all her books spilling into more snow, but didn't really have time to worry about it. She had to call an ambulance, right?

She got to 9. She got to 1. But then she paused. The fire was gone, and the boy who fell was up and running after her again. What?

The human part of her was like, 'OH MY GOD! THEY'RE FINE!' and the mutant part was all, 'OH NO, THEY'RE FINE!' Maybe that wasn't the mutant part. Maybe that was just another human part. But he was hunting her, right? According to Risty?

She got her shit together, and a new focus kicked in. Hunting her. She was game to them. And she was a ghost or something. A mutant ghost. So, they were in for a rude awakening. She was Kitty fucking Pryde. Roller Derby? Self Defense training? She could handle a few kids trying to chase her down. Even if they had magic fire, apparently.

QUOTE (Too Much Kid)
“Hey, I can help you. My name is Germaine, but you can call me Ger,”

Did he really say he could help her? She never asked for any help.

"Screw this." She groaned, pulling herself up. She paused only for a slight second with a, "Tck. And I stepped in gum?" But then she started off again. These people were going to be relentless, weren't they? "I don't need your help, man. My dad's an accountant!" That meant nothing in the circumstance, but her mouth was acting as a free agent at the moment, while her brain was calculating scenarios for her escape.

There was a gate ahead, blocking off the entrance to the construction site to keep the kids out of the dangerous area. Hazard signs were up every twenty feet around the gate. This was good. This would buy her some time.

She peaked over her shoulder to see how close they were behind her, and then she ran right through the fence. Just right through it, like it wasn't even really there. She stopped and turned around to see their reactions, heaving out some breaths in the process. Was this safe? Was she safer now? It was only a chain linked fence with some barbed wire across the top, so she probably wasn't too safe. Not when someone was literally throwing fire.

"You guys suck!" What? "I mean... Go away, okay?!" They did suck, though. She didn't want to be chased around by mutant hunters. But were they mutant hunters or mutant hunters?

QUOTE (Germaine Caruso)
"I don't give a fuck. Now get out of my way."

“Excuse me? How dare you – “ Aaliyah didn’t even get a chance to reprimand him fully before the space between the pair ignited. She screamed. Like flambé, the flames licked into life so quickly that Aaliyah barely dodged out of the way. The faint smell of singed hair let her know that he had burnt her curls or even possibly some of her eyebrows. Ger fell to the ground. Good. Aaliyah only stumbled backward swatting at the space in front of her face.

Her Brochure was burnt as well. She dropped it to the pavement.

QUOTE (Germaine Caruso)
“See? That’s what happens when people get in my way.”

She felt her eyes begin to well up with tears and glow dark pink. “No, no, not right now,” she sputtered out. The air around her began to warp and crackling could be heard. “No, please.” Aaliyah took a deep breath steadying herself. The crackles ceased and her demons retreated into the hell they came from.

Aaliyah watched Germaine chase after Kitty who had switched directions. She hated him.

‘Aaliyah,’ It was the Professor’s voice in her head, ‘First of all, very impressive demonstration of control over your abilities. I am proud of you but,’ Of course there had to be a but. ‘But things are not going well Aaliyah. It appears as though the Brotherhood have gotten here just before us. I need you to continue the recruitment mission we outlined before. We cannot let Ms. Pryde fall in with those other mutants.'

Aaliyah pictured the brunette mutant they had come to rescue hanging out with Germaine and grimaced. No. No, they could not let that happen. ‘Okay, Professor,’ A wiped her eyes with the back of her hand. Then began to take off running after Kitty who was being tailed by everyone else at this point including that blonde girl from before and some long haired boy. She caught up with the small mob as they found themselves stopped by a barbed fence. Kitty had walked right through it.

Everyone paused for a few beats. Tense. No one quite sure what to do as they watched Kitty quickly getting away.

The Professor imposed on Ali’s thoughts again, ‘Your powers, Aaliyah.’

‘But Professor…’ She was uncomfortable with this. Especially out in the open. Even in the danger room sessions they still made her nervous.

‘You can control them, Aaliyah. You’ve demonstrated that countless times already. Noah cannot safely make it over that fence. With the aid of your abilities. With the demons. You can.’

Aaliyah knew he was right. She glanced at the others standing around her, the tears forming in her eyes again. Then her gaze landed on Germaine and narrowed into a glare. The air crackled beside her and the demons erupted with their characteristic howls and screeches. Aaliyah’s eyes were glowing a brilliant dark pink. It was a strange sensation she’d come to realize. The connection she had to the demons was akin to the connections she shared with the Professor though even more natural. In a way it felt...right. She despised it.

The demons flanked her. Their red skin stood out starkly against the winter backdrop. They flapped their leathery wings as Aaliyah commanded mentally and they each gripped her under an arm. She shuddered and the baby hairs stood up on the back of her neck as their claws tightened around her. Aaliyah kept her eyes forward – she couldn’t bear to glance at either one of the devil creatures. Albeit both demons were smaller than Aaliyah, as they flapped their muscled wings, they appeared to lift her with ease. They carried her handily over the fence and towards Kitty traipsing through the crisp grass ahead.

Aaliyah was carried just a few feet above ground level now. With the steady, powerful, beats of the demon wings, they quickly gained on Katherine Pryde and then surpassed her. With a thought, she indicated for the demons to slow their pace and lower her to the ground. Then with a forceful thought she commanded they disappear back to whence they came. With a soft crackle, they were gone.

Aaliyah with a few tears rolling down her cheeks turned towards Kitty. “Katherine, please stop running,” It was nearly pleading at this point, “Please, I’m only here because I understand.” Aaliyah’s brochure at this point was long-forgotten in the parking lot. Now she had only her sincere desire to help Kitty.

Compared with Germaine, Nolan was the strategist. Nolan preferred things to remain calm, cool, and collected whilst his co-Brotherhood member was always flying off the handle about this or that. The kid was a firecracker and it didn’t help that his powers literally let him burn shit down. As it goes, when Germaine nearly lit a girl on fire, Nolan wasn’t the least bit surprised. Instead, he thought simply, ‘Ah, that must be an X-man.’ Ger was sure fired up about those things before.

Nolan pulled out his phone and swiped the Mystique contact to dial her.

She picked up. “Mystique!” Nolan was overly congenial. “How’s it going? So, Germaine says he found the girl. Ahh…jeeze,” Nolan watched Kitty run by him, Germaine not far behind, “He’s actually chasing after her.

“I know you dolt. I'm watching everything. I asked you two idiots to stay put.”

“What? No way. Who are you this time? Ger just tried to burn your face off didn’t he?”

“I’m on the bench, Nolan.” The phone clicked off. Nolan heard Mystique’s voice call out in a yell, “After her! We mustn’t let Xavier’s spawn get to her first.

Nolan looked to the bench and gulped back some bile. Just freaking of course Mystique had to transform into the hot chick he was ogling before. Disgusting. “Right.” Nolan slid his phone back into his pocket. So, disappointing, but she would have probably never been interested anyway. He jogged to join the blonde Mystique as the pair of them joined the small pack hunting for Kitty.

They neared Germaine but Kitty was already through the fence. Nolan slowed his jog and placed his hand lightly on Ger’s shoulder. Out of breath, “Well shit dude. She’s quick." He watched her crunching her way through the half frozen grass on the other side of the barbed barrier. Nolan gestured with his thumb to Mystique behind him, “Hot one was Mystique. Go figure." Her venomous glare shut him up just in time to hear the crackling to his right.

SKREEEEEEE!!

Two red skinned hell beasts popped out of nowhere. Skittering behind Ger and Mystique he crouched down exclaiming, “Oh fuck, what!? Wow, nope, nope…I’m done.” If there was one thing that could get a reaction out of Nolan it was a movie style jump scare. “Those are way over the top,” He commented, calming down, as they took off with the younger X-girl over the fence.

“Nolan, make yourself worthwhile and get through that fence.”

He flashed Mystique a ’who me’ puppy eyed look, but her snarl was all he needed to hop into action. He reached out and grabbed the fence quickly merging his body with the metal which crisscrossed back and forth. For the first time he felt complicated. A second later he had popped out on the opposite side. He turned to look at Ger and Mystique, “You know give me fifteen minutes and I could make a hole in this thing big enough for the both of you.”

“GO!

Right-o. With a turn, he ran/jogged towards Kitty and the demon-chick. It was a sad sight for sure, Nolan huffing and puffing. He was already out of breath and the pair were so far away and already talking. He started waving his arms as the approached panting, “No….wait….hold on…join…us!"

It was all fucked up. But this was where things turned both weird and freaky. These people kids obviously were not with the CIA. But they were chasing her.

First, one had offered her 'help' she didn't need, after throwing fire at a girl. And then everybody knew her name. And after she'd ghosted through the gate, nobody even thought anything of it, they just kept coming! She was a ghost, why didn't that scare, people? Even the one throwing fire?

Then, outta literally nowhere, two fucked up gremlins with wings erupted from Actually Hell and just up and kidnapped one of the girls! She must've been really important, getting all these attacks against her.

Kitty clutched her chest, like she was searching for her faith, or the Star of David medallion her Mom got her last year that she never wore. Gremlins. Demons. Real demons. Were those the mutants? Were the mutant hunters, hunting kids? Was this Nightmare on Fat Ham Street? "OH MY GOD! SOMEBODY HELP HER!" But the others were just acting like it was normal. Nobody was throwing fire at the demons, they were just letting this poor girl get kidnapped and probably taken back to hell!

Kitty rushed forward, something in her ready to help the girl. Ghost her out of the demon clutches, or something. But instead, after a moment or two, she landed, her eyes all wonky and her voice totally rational. Like this was nothing. Like this was supposed to happen. And the damn (kinda cute, not gonna lie) demons just up and disappeared.

QUOTE (Taken Girl)
“Katherine, please stop running,” “Please, I’m only here because I understand.”

What... the fuck? "What... the fuck?"

And just at that moment, the dude with the hair just like... totally vanished and reappeared on her side of the gate. How was this happening?! Why was this happening? What was even happening? Oh God, and what was she going to tell Mom?

QUOTE (The Dude with the Hair)
“No….wait….hold on…join…us!"

Part of her wanted to be a little mean about all this, but she had a thing for guys who looked like homeless drug addicts. Also, why did he say it like they were two different groups?

She didn't get it. "I don't get it."
Didn't they come together? "Didn't you come together?"
She didn't get it. "I don't get it."

"You got demons attacking you, and you don't even scream for help." She turned her head to the boy. "And you T-1000 into a gate like that's just an okay, swell thing to do." She huffed, almost pissed, arms out like she'd given up trying to assess. "And I'm just over here with my willy all nilly, not getting you with the Satans or you with the Terminator thing..."

She crossed her arms under her chest, looking back and forth between the two of them. "I'm a goddamn ghost. So somebody better start making sense right now, or I'm gonna fuck you both up with my ghosty thingy. Now, which one of you is hunting mutants?"
