Welcome to X-Men: Unhinged Evolution!

We are an alternate universe X-Men: Evolution roleplaying game that accepts canon/original characters and fun, creative writers. The time is set before season 1.

Mutants are not yet known to the public, but when superpowers are in the hands of hormonal teenagers who knows how long that will last. Professor Xavier is doing his best to delay the process by homing these young mutants and teaching them to control their powers. Magneto and Mystique are doing something similar.

So far, the only mutants living at the Xavier Institute are Ororo and Logan, whereas the Brotherhood of Bayville Boarding House is virtually unoccupied.
Who will be next? Who will be the X-Men? Who will be the Brotherhood?

You decide.

Happy roleplaying!

    [Basic Stats]

    Full Name: Laurie Tromette
    Nickname(s): N/A
    Alias(es): N/A
    Age: 17
    DOB: September 22

    Classification: Mutant
    Codename: Transonic
    Alliance: X-men
Evo Canon, Comics Canon or Original: Comics Canon

Place of residence: Xavier Mansion, Bayville, New York
    Occupation: Student
    Year in school: Junior

    [Appearance]

    Height: 5’6”
    Weight: 165 lbs
Hair: Red or magenta, depending on lighting (Formerly Brown)
Eyes: Silver-white, no pupils (Formerly Brown)
    Skin: Deep blue

Build: Laurie has a build of a runner, being fairly lean and slender in her overall. She is in the average range for her height, toned, and rather fit, usually sticking to a moderate rate of exercise to keep herself healthy. She has angular features with a friendly, welcoming face and still shows the bright promise of youth. She has the beginnings of an hour-glass figure and slightly large bust.
Dress: Laurie’s prefered dress tends to be rather casual, comfortable, and sometimes form fitting. Her preferred clothes are plain t-shirts and long sleeve shirts paired with either dark blue jeans or jean shorts. Though, Laurie also favors wearing tank tops, mid-driffs, and dresses. Laurie generally tries to be modest in her attire and not show so much of her body, though her mutation as of late has made it somewhat difficult to not find clothes that allow for a quick removal. As a result of her mutation she has come to favor zip up hoodie jackets, runner shorts, and sneakers, all of which have proven to be the quickest to remove in a pinch.
Other: Laurie’s mutation alone is enough to make her quite distinguished among most. Her skin is a deep blue, seemingly crystalline cover over her actual skin, with its features always shifting and changing depending on how fast or how high she can go in the atmosphere. She also has visible bone protrusions along her shoulders and head with visible markings; these markings in particular are V-shapes on her elbows and knees while her stomach has a diamond-shaped marking on her abdomen. She also has facial lines going from her forehead that follows down her cheek to the corners of her lips. A final oddity of her physical change is that her ears are far more pointed at the top, reminiscent of elf ears.

    [Psychological Profile]

    Likes:
+Research, Laurie has a love for knowing about different topics, mainly current events, culture, debates, and topics of history and literature.
+Laurie loves to read, she is rarely ever seen without some kind of book in hand or near her person.
    +Ice cream (lots of it)
+She also likes taking time to herself and the night time.
    Dislikes:
+Laurie is not overly fond of violence, seeing it's use as rather meaningless.
+Laurie isn't quite fond of the cool crowd, especially thanks to past experience.
+Strange as it sounds, Laurie also isn't too fond of camping, her and the outdoors just don't mix.
+Laurie has also recently shown a great dislike for her mutation since it came in.

Goals: Going to college, becoming an International Journalist, hopefully grow to like her mutation in time
Fears: Laurie is deathly afraid of hospitals, making more friends due to what happened in recent months, and spiders.

Strengths: Laurie is exceptionally intelligent, strong willed, and fairly good multitasker.
Weaknesses: Laurie is rather hesitant to partake in violence compared to most, and would rather avoid it altogether. She can at times be pressured to do something when the right buttons are pushed and her mutation can be something of a problem as of late.

    Best subject: English, History, Sociology
    Worst subject: Math, Art
Extracurriculars: Track, Debate Club, Chess Club

General Personality: Laurie is a person who is, and always has been, curious about the world around her. She will find interest in subjects, objects, or people she has never seen or met before, tending to observe from afar or diving right into researching as much as she can about that person, object, or topic if its available with great enthusiasm. She seeks knowledge to quench her seemingly endless need to know something, perhaps far more than the typical teenager would know. Where someone may research just for the sake of a project or out of necessity, Laurie does it just because there is endless avenues out there to find something interesting. To her at least.

From a young age, Laurie has been instilled with the concern for good morals and ethics. That is, Laurie has a belief that there are certainly actions that are right, even if it does mean perhaps bending rules to some degree, while others are clearly wrong in every sense of the word. She has grown up with the sense that she should try to treat everyone she meets with some level of respect, kindness, and openness, because you never know what might be going on or if one day how you treated that person could come back around full circle. Though, that's not to say that Laurie also knows when to had some level of skepticism and being careful. After all, not everyone is exactly out there to be your friend.

Laurie does have a bit of an issue in the social setting, if even being a bit awkward and shy. She has always found herself doing better with books than talking with people, being more concerned with her academics and knowledge seeking than long, drawn out conversations unless its a subject that truly catches her curiosity. Her social circle has been limited to people who have shared similar interests as herself, such as debates or current events, making her something best labeled as a nerd or geek by those in the cool crowd.

After recent events, Laurie has gotten a bit insecure and guarded. The loss of her friendship and the trust of her parents has made Laurie worried she will mess up again if she were to ever try to have other close relationships. She will still treat someone with kindness and respect but she is not so quick to open up more than ever. She wasn't the greatest when trying to get to know someone before yes, but Laurie's string of luck as of late has made her uncertain if this will be a repeated cycle. And well, her mutation has drastically changed her in terms of appearance, which certainly won't make this any easier, especially with Laurie being concerned being labeled as a freak or monster on top of already being a social oddball.

    [Abilities]

    Mutant Power(s):
Malleable Crystal Skin: Laurie’s primary mutation is a physical one, her body having permanently changed to that of a deep blue colored crystalline substance. What is unique about this substance though is that it is malleable, better yet explained as a reactive, altering substance that responds to how fast Laurie goes or how high she flies. When flying at her full speed Laurie takes on a missile or rocket-like form (seen here), which makes her body appear rather smooth and aerodynamic. At lower altitudes, and only going at one-third her usual speed, her form shifts to a much spiker appearance complete with two horns extending from her forehead, spikes along her arms and legs, and spiked wings extending from her back, all of which can be used for maneuverability, balance, and melee purposes (see here). And finally. Laurie can also turn into what appears to be a flying mermaid-like creature when in higher altitudes, her body becoming twice it's length with elongated limbs, her protrusions extending out into spikes and horns with additional spikes visible on her neck. Like her low altitude state, she gains spikes on her forearms, fin-like wings extending half her body length with the same purpose as her spiked ones, fin-like extensions on her feet and legs, and her face becomes smoother, more angular, and her hair extends well down to knee level (see here).

Self-Propelled Flight: A second major aspect of Laurie’s mutation is that she can fly on her own power. Thus, like most mutant fliers, Laurie is limited to how high she can fly, which is only to ten thousand feet. But, this flight ability coincides with her first ability; her reactive crystal skin allowing her survive the g-forces and velocity at which she flies, preventing her from tearing herself apart.
+Superhuman Speed: As her codename suggests, Laurie can travel, in terms of flight capabilities, at transonic speeds. Her speed cap can reach up to Mach 1, or 768 mph, but Laurie tends to limit herself to roughly 200 mph to 300 mph.

    Biggest Drawback(s):
Malleable Skin: Laurie has no control over how her crystalline skin reacts. It's properties alter at its own accord, depending on how fast and high she is going, altering to a spiked or smooth appearance without her control. Though in time she may learn to control it to some extent, it will be some time before she can fully com to grips with what this physical metamorphosis can do.

Flight: Laurie's ability to fly draws on her own physical power, which means she does take some mental concentration and focus to get going and keep herself aloft. It so far hasn't come naturally to her as most fliers, which means it might take months or a few years before she grasps in not overthinking this effort. Her flying is also not the most graceful. When combined with her speed she has to be conscious of slowing herself down enough to make sharp, sudden turns or rely on the wings she can manifest at higher altitudes to aid her in maneuverability and balance. Her oxygen intake is also concerning, as Laurie must be able to draw in large amounts of oxygen exhale as she makes stops or take breaks since she cannot regulate her oxygen intake when flying at high speeds. Laurie can also fly at a constant pace, but only for half-an-hour to an hour at a time at which point she will tire.

Speed: Laurie can fly at incredible speeds and her physical change prevents her from being torn apart, but it does physically drain her and comes with some problems. For one, she cannot just stop on a dime or slow right way. She most gradually slow herself or be conscious of how fast she is going to alter her direction. Sudden stops or turns gives her whiplash and causes her to become off-balance, on top of preventing her from properly taking in oxygen as she needs to. Thus, she must limit to quick, short bursts of speeds between 100-400 mph while using her full speed can push her to her physical limits at this time. She can use this full speed for five to ten minutes before she tires herself out and needing a long period to rest, but pushing beyond ten minutes will cause her to pass out from physical strain.

Altitudes: Laurie must also be consciously aware of how high she is going. Her body adapts to allow her to hold in oxygen for longer periods during this time but this supply will last for but an hour before she begins feeling dizziness. If she remains past her limit, Laurie can risk passing out or suffocation.

Non-mutant power(s): Though not exactly much of an athlete, Laurie is a rather skilled runner, is highly intelligent, and is fairly decent when it comes to debating.

    [Background Check]

    Hometown: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
    Birthplace: Cooperstown, New York
Family: Mr. Tromette and Mrs. Tromette (Parents)

Criminal Record: No, but did get off with a warning once

History: Laurie was born to Mr.Tromette and Mrs.Tromette as an only child in Cooperstown, New York, her father originating from the area and her mother moving there from Canada at some point in her teen years. The two would be high school sweethearts and eventually marry before Laurie was conceived. But, soon after her birth, Laurie and her family decided to move back to her mother’s place of birth to help take care of her ailing grandparents. And it would be here that Laurie would generally spend most of her life, being the only child her parents ever had.

Laurie’s life growing up was no different from any other child’s. When she was younger, she always seemed bright, happy, and loved to get her hands on just about anything and everything that caught her interest. In fact, her parents noticed a particularly highly curious nature about her, even at a young age. A young Laurie wanted to get into anything and everything, causing her parents to have to keep a close eye on her while also looking out for her grandparents. But, it is also from this impressionable age that Laurie learned about morals, ethics, and respect, her parents often drilling into her the meaning of all three and showing respect for her peers and authority.

To no surprise, Laurie kept these principles with her throughout her life. But it was sometime during when she was about seven or eight that Laurie began facing many bouts of having the flu on and off. This put her in the hospital often and required her to work far harder when it came to school, often playing catch up but doing fairly well despite this set back. Unfortunately, being in the hospital put a bad impression on her as the nurses and doctors she had weren’t all particularly kind or gentle, sometimes being quite aloof, rude, and seeming annoyed by her presence, causing her to become distrustful and uneasy when in or near a hospital. This would last for most of her elementary school years and first year of middle school before she showed signs of finally making a long-term recovery.

The moment she was given a clean bill of health, Laurie was more than happy to leave the place that had made her miserable and feel unwelcomed. It was also in seventh grade that Laurie began to finally blossom in her academics, once more diving into her studies and beyond, but also taking up track to help in strengthening her body. She began eating healthier, working out, just taking care to change her lifestyle to avoid becoming sick like she had before. Before long, Laurie found herself not only surpassing most of her classmates academically but able to reconnect with a childhood friend by the name of Melanie who seemed quite thrilled to have Laurie back.

She skipped a grade right to high school, but stayed friends with Melanie, who tried to help her friend keep confident and became a second encouragement for Laurie along with her parents. But, it was during these years her parents became more adamant about her focus and motivation, for her not to worry about a social life and that academics came before anything else. But Laurie was able to show she could balance both at least for a time. And over the course of her high school years, there was a constant tension between her and her mother began that developed; her mother wanted her to become a doctor, pointing out Laurie had the smarts and skill for it but Laurie always refused on the account of her deathly fear of hospitals. Nevertheless though, Laurie generally kept a normal life…up until the past year.

It began with Melanie convincing Laurie to try and become one of the cool kids, after all Laurie was smart and attractive, two qualities that could surely win her points. So, Laurie agreed to go to a spot often used for illegal racing and often being a popular hang out for high school students, despite Laurie having reservations about going in the first place. Though surprised, the “cool kids” decided to take advantage of this unexpected situation. They pressured Laurie and Melanie to race, but it was ultimately Melanie who convinced Laurie to do so…resulting in a near fatal accident. Melanie was severely injured while Laurie only got minor injuries, but their friendship dissolved with Melanie blaming Laurie for what happened and Laurie soon lost the trust of her parents for her recklessness. She barely avoided getting jail time with the police deciding to give her a slap on the wrist, feeling she had gone through enough. And if that wasn’t enough, Laurie’s stress levels started going up when she began to feel sick once more, worried her flu had returned.

In fact, it was the very opposite. Instead, it was her powers beginning to manifest. She began to feel like she had the flu all over again, her bones felt like they were made of liquid metal due to the agonizing pain, and her hair began to fall out. Her parents became concerned, especially when her skin showed signs of becoming blue and hard, causing them to speak of going to the hospital but Laurie refused, her fear kicking in at the mention of it. January became a living hell for Laurie as the pain and other symptoms became worse, her brown hair becoming replaced with red and her skin painfully and slowly changing. Under all the agony, Laurie literally considered ridding of the pain through suicide if not for her parents stepping in.

Before Laurie could even leave the house her parents were quick to stop her, decided to keep a watch on her for the next week. But what Laurie hasn't been aware of is that her x-gene activating has brought her to the attention of the X-men and quite possibly the Brotherhood.

Hi, Tundra! Welcome to XUE. Glad you've decided to apply for Laurie. She is an interesting character who I rarely ever see played. However, before we can approve your application, there are a few things that need fixing.

Starting from the top...

BASIC STATS:

In the history, it says Laurie is from New York, but here it says she is from Canada? Pick one, please.

Laurie cannot be a journalist intern. She is still in high school. It's a hard enough gig to get even with a degree.

Since she just turned 17, she'd be a Junior, not a Senior.

APPEARANCE:

QUOTE
She has the beginnings of an hour-glass figure and slightly large bust, being viewed as attractive by most of her peers but not quite yet filled out.

Please avoid assuming she is viewed as attractive by her peers. She can think that, but this is a physical description and should be more objective.

Also, just a heads up. Once she arrives at Bayville, she will need to use an Image Inducer, which is a watch-like device that hides physical mutations. Since mutants are not to be known by the public just yet.

QUOTE
She generally doesn’t mind wearing plain t-shirts or long sleeve shirts, dark or faded jeans that are pants or long pants to perhaps something with patterns or tan or white colored clothing.

Please word this better.

PERSONALITY:

QUOTE
Laurie has a liking for researching just about anything that catches her interest

Please specify what her interests actually are.

QUOTE
Laurie is not exactly one for violence, dislikes being around guns, and dislikes those labeled as “cool kids” or even camping

Please word this better. Also, it's weird that her top dislike is "being around guns." That would imply she has been in quite a bit of contact with people who use guns in the past, which isn't reflected in the history.

QUOTE
Laurie is known to unsure in violent situations, guarded, and insecure.

Please word this better. Laurie is known to... what?

Overall, we feel her personality doesn't make a whole lot of sense. It's full of contradictions. Also, in the first paragraph, you seem to repeat the same concept four times:

QUOTE
Laurie is first and foremost a fairly kind hearted, somewhat out-going individual. She is a person who could truly be seen as the type with a heart of gold and fairly empathic to those around her. She is also one those who will be glad to lend a hand for those who need it or just be someone to listen and lend her ear if they so wish. Overall, she is a person that can be fairly easy to get along with who loves to share jokes, do activities, and generally seems rather approachable and fairly open around others

What is most repeated is her approachableness. And what are these "activities" she likes to do? Please specify.

I won't quote the second paragraph, but it seems to be filled with history points rather than personality points. Please be more concise.

The third paragraph, which states she is insecure and avoidant to a degree due to her fears of being rejected, seems to contradict the previous paragraphs. Now, it's perfectly fine with Laurie to be going through some changes, but as it reads now I don't get a good sense of what her "usual self" is.

POWERS:

I'm slightly confused. Isn't Laurie made out of that blue crystalline substance you talk about already? Why would she "turn into" or "become covered in" it? If you'd like Laurie to be able to switch back and forth between her human and mutant forms, that is fine, but if not I'd like this cleared up.

As it stands, she is far too overpowered for our game, which is centered around highly untrained teenagers who are relatively new to their powers. Therefore, we'd like to see more limits. For example, I think her being able to sustain flight for 4-5 hours is way too much. One hour or less would be more workable. And if you cannot add more limits to her durability/speed/flight, I'd suggest removing a power or two. Perhaps, at this point in time, she can only engage in body transformations? Or she maybe she can only fly? If you'd like to discuss it more with an admin, feel free to PM one of us.

HISTORY:

Looks good to me!

That's it for now. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns regarding your application. You have a week to complete the edits, though you are free to request an extension if need be. Thanks!

So, changed what you guys pointed out. She's now a Junior, journalist internship dropped, and I decided to bullet point the Likes/Dislikes. Dropped the dislike for guns because not sure where that would originate, more so if her family had them or some other reason. I did mention she skipped a grade in her history so I wasn't sure if that affected her grade she was in or not, but if I was wrong thanks for that.

I did redo her personality and I removed durability and maneuverability. Honestly, don't know how to explain "freakish maneuverability" anyhow so that was dropped. Her speed and flight I kept, hopefully with better limitations and ones that make sense for a first time flier. These are really big parts of her character so I did try to put what limitations I could.

Edit: I redid her power drawbacks one more time so it was a bit more organized. And hopefully the limits seem reasonable.
