Welcome to X-Men: Unhinged Evolution!

We are an alternate universe X-Men: Evolution roleplaying game that accepts canon/original characters and fun, creative writers. The time is set before season 1.

Mutants are not yet known to the public, but when superpowers are in the hands of hormonal teenagers who knows how long that will last. Professor Xavier is doing his best to delay the process by homing these young mutants and teaching them to control their powers. Magneto and Mystique are doing something similar.

So far, the only mutants living at the Xavier Institute are Ororo and Logan, whereas the Brotherhood of Bayville Boarding House is virtually unoccupied.
Who will be next? Who will be the X-Men? Who will be the Brotherhood?

You decide.

Happy roleplaying!

”The laser turrets are too predictable!” X-23 shouted, attracting the targeting scope of one and then leaping to the top of another, diving off just as the first laser shot, missed her, and instead disabled the turret she’d been standing on. Growling she ran at the remaining turret, dodging all but one of the lasers, ignoring the burn of it against her leg. As she reached the turret she spun on one foot, the other flying out in a kick. snikt! Her foot-claw shot out and slashed through the laser, destroying it in a shower of sparks. She turned to look up at the viewing window where Ms. Munroe was monitoring her. ”There is nothing dangerous about this room,” she called up, fists balled at her side and a scowl on her face. ”It is a game room, not a danger room.” Through the glass she could see the disapproving arch of Ms. Munroe’s brow as the broken laser turret sputtered and finally died. ”I know I am not supposed to fight back, but that is not real training. If you want me to test it, I need to fight back.”

Professor Xavier had asked her to help test his ‘danger room’, apologizing that he was asking her to work on a day when the other students were relaxing. She didn’t mind. Relaxing made her restless, reminded her of hours alone in a concrete room with nothing to do. But so far it wasn’t dangerous.

”Do what you need to do, X-23. Let’s have you try level two.” Ms. Munroe’s voice came over the PA.

”No, we should see what this room can really do.” Ms. Munroe waved at her to continue. Fine. She’d tell her what she’d been thinking since taking on the level one course. ”What is the highest level Logan tried?”

”Seven, but he’s a teacher X-23, and his mutation…”

X-23’s nostrils flared with frustration. ”Is the same as mine…” snikt! Twin claws jutted from each hand. She ran at the wall, leapt, and buried her claws into the wall of the danger room, using them to climb up to the viewing window. There, face to face with Ms. Munroe, she said ”If he can do level seven, then I want to do level…” Her words broke off as she glimpsed a monitor inside the viewing room rotating through different camera feeds on the school grounds. Walking across the yard was the man she’d come here for, the man behind her creation. Suddenly Professor Xavier’s insistence that she work in the danger room made sense. He was here - Weapon X. Wolverine. ”Logan…” she whispered, then, as Ms. Munroe started to turn to see what she was looking, ”Level eight Ms. Munroe… let me try level eight.” She could see the hesitation in the woman’s eyes. ”I am like him, but faster than him. I can do this. And if I fail, you can turn it off.”

She nodded with satisfaction as Ms. Munroe’s voice rang out over the PA - ”Danger Room level eight, voice print authentication Storm.” X-23 dropped to the floor, leaving her claws out as a swarm of laser shooting drones buzzed out from above her and metal reticulated tentacles wriggled across the floor toward her. She had a plan, a plan to get to him, but in order to do that she had to fight well. At first.

Focus.

For a moment she held still, taking in the movement pattern of the threats advancing on her, and then she let go of her conscious mind and disappeared into a blur of movement. As she stabbed the air, spun, kicked, and flowed through the room drones and tentacles dropped to the ground motionless, the strikes that took them out too quick to register. There was no better time than when she was in the flow, able to just be. It was at times like these when she could almost appreciate what it was that Logan had given her.

But now it was time to kill him.

A group of three drones flew at her. She acted like she didn’t see them, turning suddenly to face them when they were right on top of her. All three shot her at the same time and she took their lasers full in the chest. X-23 fell to the ground, the pain of the impact and the burns nothing compared to what she’d endured at Hydra. She heard Ms. Munroe’s voice calling out ”End training!” and she held still on the floor, eyes closed. A moment later the main door to the danger room opened and she heard the whoosh of air as Ms. Munroe flew in. ”X-23… X-23 are you alright?” She held still a second longer, flaring her nostrils, taking in the air from beyond the door.

She smelled him.

X-23 was up in an instant, streaking through the door before Ms. Munroe could stop her.

Focus… Rage!

All her attention was on Logan’s scent as she ran through the halls of the mansion. She sighted him through an open first story window and dove out, hitting the ground at a roll, coming up with her hand-claws out. Breathing heavily she opened her mouth and screamed with fury once before charging at the man behind all her suffering.

"Welcome to the school," Logan said as he stopped at the gate. Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters loomed over the bend of the long driveway. Shrubs lined the high bricked fence as trees dotted the left and right. The sparkling lake pierced the slender openings through the gates, but even from where he was at, he would never forget the scent of greenery and freshness when first arriving.

The gates swung open and Logan drove his bike to the mansion. The familiar angel statue with a fountain at its base stood in the center of a giant circle with trees spaced evenly from the front. Instead of stopping at the mansion's front door where the grand staircase in the foyer awaited, Logan continued to his left, past the school, and followed the driveway to the garage. He stopped his bike, lowered the kickstand, and waited for Kyle to jump off.

"Follow me," he said after putting Kyle's helmet back into its normal position on his bike.

He went around the mansion to the school's backyard. Eyes swept the empty pool due to the cold weather and the quiet gazebo that overlooked a small bridge that passed across a ravine. Instead of focusing on the school itself, Logan looked out over the woods, where the birds still whistled and the leaves rustled, even as the sky began to darken. "If things get to be too much in there," he threw a thumb at the mansion, "you can go in there," pointing to the woods, "whenever you want. Plenty of animals to watch and plenty of places to sit and relax."

He stood there without a word more, arms crossed and eyes shadowed. He was hesitating, trying to find any excuse he could not to go inside the mansion. Asking him to be a teacher was one thing; asking him to stay at the mansion was a second; alerting him some girl was here, wanting to kill him, because she was him, was another. He had just ridden from Canada on a too-many hour trip, and now he'd have to deal with something within moments that'd normally take him months to get through.

She'll be in the Danger Room when you arrive, Charles told him when they first got into contact. It'll be a controlled environment where you can meet her. She needs you. She's been tortured. Created. Broken. Remade. She can be redeemed.

Just like you.

"Let's go in," Logan mumbled as he turned to walk into the backdoor. It was then the girl fell from the sky, rolled to her feet, showed her claws, screamed, then charged.

Logan dodged the first blow, dodged the second, then found himself struck upon the third. She was fast, much faster than him, and the only thing that could run through his mind was: That's me. God, she was him. A part of him. A clone. Did he look like that as a kid? Was he once that nimble and agile? Did he always have that gleam of anger, that untamed wildness, and that spark of defiance that seemed to radiate from her core?

He attempted to dodge, not willing to fight back, jumping back and flipping as needed. She struck him. Several times. His blood dripped on the ground. He flashed a thought to Kyle, wondering what the feral teen would do, but his mind went back to X-23, thinking, maneuvering, and trying to come up with words without having his tongue ripped out.

"You're still their weapon." He gathered some distance before his frame hunched over, shoulders heaved, fists out, and cowboy hat thrown far away for safety. "I made my choice a long time ago not to be a weapon. If this is what you really want, to kill the only man who really understands who you are, then do it."

Snikt!

"But damnit, darlin', don't expect me to make it easy."

There were so many scents on the new territory that Kyle could barely contain his desire to run around, exploring it. The building itself held less interest for him than the landscape, especially as Logan told him more about it, with the woods the creatures within. Perhaps he had made a good choice; that was encouraging. He stood by Logan's side as the man remained, for his own reasons, the feral boy tipped his nose to the air.

The glass shattering was a surprise and the following scream made him wince. The figure brushed passed him in a rush of fury. The attack wasn't meant for him, and for the second time today, he was baffled by a human. He watched Logan dodge attacks, before he couldn't, and claws of metal drew blood from the man's body. Instantly, Kyle bristled, dropped into a readied crouch. His fangs lengthened and claws extended from his nails, not metal, but sharp enough as animals go. Logan was not his Alpha, but in their temporary situation, he had become close enough. Defend the pack.

Logan attempted to talk sense to the girl, but Kyle was beyond such tactics, even if he could have, or wanted to. Blood was in the air and X-23's rage was infectious, like a fuel added to the fire in his mind. His claws dug into the ground a little, gaining a grip before he leaped toward the slightly smaller figure. As she faced her own prey, he couldn't reach her throat, so he aimed for the back of her neck to sink his teeth in a vice-like grip.

X-23 had fought Logan in her mind ever since finding out he existed. Ever since reading that file hacked from a S.H.I.E.L.D. database: Weapon X Program: Origin - Logan, a.k.a. Wolverine. Last known location Xavier Institute for Gifted Children, Westchester, N.Y., U.S.A. In every one of those imaginary fights she’d had the upper hand, fighting clean and smart like she always had. Logan would be the one growling and thrashing about like an animal. He was responsible for making her, he would be responsible for his own death by her.

Yes she was a weapon, she was the perfect fighter.

But when she caught his scent, something bottled up since reading that file, bottled up since the first time she’d cried all night as an infant in that concrete room, came loose. Rage!

She was supposed to be focused. The only way to beat someone with Logan’s size and experience was with focus. As she hurtled across the yard toward him not only was any semblance of focus gone, she was barely conscious of what she was doing. Rage! Rage! Rage! Rage!

All the words she’d formed in her mind to fling at him when they met were gone. All she could get out was a primal scream as she leapt at him, arms flung wide out, stabbing her claws at him like the needle of a sewing machine as she met him. He dodged, several of her attacks, and somewhere in her mind her handler’s voice mocked her, ”Of course X-23, you’re using no strategy at all, you gave yourself away and all he has to do is slice you in half and you’ll be finished.”

”NO!” she yelled, her lips curling back in triumph as she felt her claws finally sink home. But now she was in range for him to crush her to him and cut her up at his leisure. Focus. She had to focus. X-23 planted her feet against his chest and leapt off him, backflipping to a few feet away. She wasn’t tired, but she was panting with emotion. Already the wounds she dealt him were closing up. She had to cut him faster than he could heal, she knew that.

Focus.

She circled around as he squatted down and she shook her head as he tried to talk to her. ”NO! Do not talk to me. I am your weapon. You made me. After you threw out the 22 that came before me!” Snarling she danced in, slashing at him, watching his moves. ”You do not understand me… stop talking and fight!”

SNIKT

Logan’s claws flew out and X-23 nodded. Good, it was time to finish this. ”I am not your darling, I am…”

A scrabble of sound behind her alerted her but not soon enough as a snarling bundle of claws and teeth landed on her back. She reacted instinctively. Her nostrils flared and she registered both human and animal, male. He outweighed her so rather than struggle she tucked in, sharply, throwing him over her head, a chunk of her flesh coming out in his mouth. At the same time - snikt - she shot out a foot claw and kicked up into the body coming down.

When she saw the boy the fight suddenly flowed out of her as she realized what she’d done. Had she just killed a mutant boy? slikt All of her claws retracted as she stumbled back, looking at the body. This wasn’t a student.. He must have come with Logan. He must…

X-23’s body started trembling and the points of her claws poked out as she stared at Logan. ”Is he another one? Is that your plan? To have your weapons fight each other?" She stood there, caught between the drive to launch herself once more at her enemy and the guilt of having just stabbed someone like her. She had no protocol for this.

...22? Logan didn't have time to let everything she said register. Emotions were high, adrenaline was surging, and anything that'd take longer than one second to process was too long.

"Don't!" Logan was too late. The boy jumped on the smaller girl's back and Logan was already sprinting ahead. Seconds. It had taken the girl seconds to rip Kyle from her back and expose the claw that lay sheathed in her foot. The boy was speared. By the time Logan skid to Kyle's form, claws disappeared in a flash and thick hands aimed to press on the chest wound.

Think. Did the kid have a healing factor? No scratches on him when they met. No wounds at the diner. He escaped from the Empire yesterday; could he have been injured running away? The trails of blood leaking from Kyle's mouth from the chunk of meat he tore from the girl held no answer. The stench of iron and sweat clouding the area still held no answer. Logan lifted his hands just long enough to look at the hole in Kyle's chest. The kid was unresponsive, but his heart was still beating, rapidly now that he was spewing blood. Then he saw it. The blood was congealing almost immediately.

Logan gave an inward sigh of relief.

Logan's first instinct was always to fight--to defend the wounded from receiving another grievous wound. Yet Logan didn't. His first instinct was to make sure Kyle was safe despite the immediate danger to his own well being. Maybe he had faith the girl was less of a weapon than he expected. Maybe he had faith she'd recognize innocents were more important than the enemy. Or maybe his instincts sensed the tension falling from her form the moment Kyle's body neared her foot. Whatever the reason, his dark eyes rolled to her body, watching, studying, and glaring.

”Is he another one? Is that your plan? To have your weapons fight each other?"

How long had X-23 been here now? A few days? Was she so blinded by her rage that she didn't see the obvious answer before her eyes? Charles wouldn't let children be weapons at his school. Storm wouldn't be training murderers who feasted on blood. There were students, friends, teachers, and mentors. If she couldn't understand that fact in the few days she'd been here, then Logan would never convince her otherwise, but that's not to say Logan didn't have anything to say.

"He's a student," he finally said, voice even and emotionless. "He was in the woods when I found him. Alone. Hungry. He just escaped from a place where people were hurting him. Don't that sound familiar?" Logan took his hands off Kyle's wound once the boy began to stir. He could feel the blood stop gushing and the hole underneath his hand begin to close. He mentally shot out a pulse that Kyle may need help, hoping someone was listening, but Logan stood up, eyes shadowed by his brow.

"He attacked you because you attacked the only person who was trying to help him. He's supposed to start classes tomorrow." Logan was approaching X-23, his body tense and muscles flexed. His lips twitched as if trying to suppress a snarl, but his balled fists gave away the emotion he was trying to contain. "I swear to God you little shit, if you hurt anybody else at this school, I will end you. One misstep, one wrong look, one God damn snarl at the wrong person and you are dead." He was inches from her, leaning down to peer straight into her eyes with little care she'd retaliate. "Everything they told you about me is a damned lie. You want proof? Make a choice. You can stay here, get answers, and learn what it's like to be a human, or you can go out there and keep bein' that damned weapon you insist on being."

His body was seething from the unspent emotion he was trying so hard to contain, but his last four words were an offer--maybe a plea for her to make the right decision.

"Let me help you."

It had come fast. One moment, his fangs had sank into the tender skin, tasting flesh and blood, and the tangy tinge of metal rather than bone, and then his body was wrenched forward. He would landed, turned back and launched himself again, however, before he hit the ground, a sharp pain hit him instead. He felt the fire in his chest and then hit the ground as the world went black.

His body was already hard at work, repairing the damage that a razor sharp, adamantium claw could do to a body. It would take a little time for the wound to heal, but as soon as internal blood was not a threat to his lungs, he took a gasp for air, waking with a start.

The world felt blurry and vague. He could hear the voice speaking...Logan, and smell them...the girl. Her blood was in his mouth. Rolling onto all fours, he spat the blood and flesh out, then he settled into crouch, panting heavily as he looked toward the pair, almost nose to nose. He whined softly, a high pitched sound emulated by pups. Logan and the girl, their scents were similar. That occurred in the pack, they would share a common scent. Pack could fight, but never kill. But someone had to bare their throat...be vulnerable. Give a little.

”You are…” Lying! It was what she wanted to say, crouched to spring, claws itching as they poked from her hands and feet. He had to be lying. Everything she’d done since escaping had been because this man was behind not only her pain but the suffering of those who came before her, the suffering of more to come. He had to be stopped. This boy who had attacked her at his bidding was an example of why she had to stop him. Another weapon in his thrall, and she’d been forced to hurt the boy.

No… that didn’t ring true. She hadn’t been forced to. She’d been trained to.

Because of him He was the origin of the Weapon X program.

X-23 flared her nostrils and inhaled deeply, the scent of the hurt boy and her enemy filling her nose and… there was no aggression in the boy, just pain and concern, and there was aggression in Logan, but it wasn’t… deception. How was that…

”You are…” Trying to mess with my head! He was just like one of her handlers, making her feel inadequate, making her question herself, making her doubt everything she knew so she would give in. Of course he didn’t want to kill her, that’s why he wasn’t fighting… she belonged to him, she was useful, his weapon, why would he destroy that? He wanted her to give in without a fight. This was all a trick. Everything designed to fool her. Everything...

”Everything they told you about me is a damned lie.”

And he wasn’t lying. The sound of his heartbeat, his scent, even the way his honest anger seethed in his eyes, none of that was a lie. Everything Hydra had told her had been a lie. That was how they controlled her, by lying to her.

”No, not everything… they told me to think… that I had to think…” Her face scrunched up with confusion. ”Please… let me think a moment…” Her voice trembled as she tried to gain control, forcing her claws back into their sheaths. They’d told her she couldn’t just be an animal, that on a mission she had to be efficient, strategic, use her mind. Maybe it was the one decent thing they’d given her. Focus. She glanced at the boy, already healing, now watching her and Logan. He would be okay. No thanks to her. But he wasn’t attacking again. He smelled strangely calm. Why had Logan brought him here?

To be a student. Like the others. Good people who had shown her kindness. People like Ms. Munroe. Ms. Munroe wouldn’t allow Logan at the school if he was dangerous, she would call down a storm to protect the children. That meant...

”You are right,” she said, standing upright, hands at her sides. She had been making herself their weapon and Logan… the boy.... She could hear her handler laughing quietly at how easily she followed their plan. A gust of wind wrapped her hair around her face and she smelled Ms. Munroe nearby. She glanced right and saw her floating nearby, watching with concern, but just watching.

”I have already hurt too many people,” she said quietly, turning to the boy. ”I am sorry. I…” She turned back to Logan and took a step closer to him, bending her head down and moving her hair aside to expose her neck. ”...need to be ended now. You are the only one who can do it. If you want to help me… do this for me.”

He had never been more tempted to swipe his leg out and watch a child groan in pain. He had also never been more tempted to snap a few words at Storm as she watched without intervening. Yet all those thoughts were pushed aside as he tamed the anger roaring inside his head. Not animal anger--not this time. This was human anger, an entirely different beast that didn't want to kill or destroy; it wanted to bash knowledge into someone's skull for being so damned stupid. The problem was he didn't know who knock upside the head first: Charles for not keeping to his word in keeping the girl in the Danger Room, Storm for watching, Kyle for attacking, or X-23 in taking so damn long to decide when he was seconds from strangling her.

Thank God she finally admitted he may have been right. Maybe they could finally put this night behind them and Logan could go to some empty room and friggin' decompre--

”...need to be ended now. You are the only one who can do it. If you want to help me… do this for me.”

His nostrils flared. He sucked air through his nose, held his breath, and let it out with a grunt. Could this night get anymore dramatic?

"Fine."

The wound on the back of her neck from Kyle's teeth had already healed. Slim traces of blood from the once open gash was all that remained. Logan popped a claw from his right hand and he swept down his arm faster than a blink. He cut her. He honest to goodness cut her. A chunk of hair she was holding fluttered to the ground. Each tiny strand struck the grass like teardrops that would never come. He sheathed his claw and her skin was left unblemished.

"Consider this a new start," he said. "A part of you they touched is gone. Dead. But you'll always have that reminder." He aimed to take her hair, still long enough to wrap around her face with one of Storm's breezes, and showed her the frayed ends he sliced. "Grow from it, and show them they'll never touch you again." He let go, taking in another deep breath before wiping her hair from his chest and the disgust of being so mature. "If they come for you again, we'll stop them together." He cleared his throat, barely mumbling out loud: "That's what family does."

He turned around, faced Kyle, and realized he still had the boy's blood on his hands. He took an analytical gaze across the teen and deemed him fit enough to move. "Go inside and get checked up. Storm will take you." He tossed a look over his shoulder at Ororo. "She'll help." Or damn well better. He ignored the white-haired goddess move into view and assist Kyle in whatever way necessary.

"So, what's your choice?" Logan asked Laura, still tense. "You staying or leaving?"

Kyle watched the curious interaction between the others, taking what understanding he could from their actions and words. There was still tension clinging to the air, and so he remained hanging back, licking at his clawed fingers. His chest at least was feeling better and his heavier breathing regulated.

The girl turned to him to apologize. He acknowledged this action, and her, by bowing his head a little. Every wolf in the pack had it's place in the hierarchy, even between pups. It was fluid, and changed often, but always there. By virtue of her speed and training, the girl had won her place above him. He was not eager about the notion of being omega, and hoped that wouldn't be his place among the human pack.

She turned away to speak to Logan and Kyle watched and waited. Logan came, and cut her fur. His nose crinkled, hoping he wouldn't have his own cut. He stood, rising back to two legs as Logan addressed him. His claws and fangs receded back to his mostly human state. He would go with the woman in white, as commanded, but, as he stepped past, he moved to brush the back of his hand along Laura's arm, in a nudge of encouragement to emulate the gesture the wolves often did to rub their scents and solidify the pack.

((And I'm out...Peace! ;P))

Not so long ago and she wouldn’t have flinched as Logan shot a claw out and swiped down toward her neck. Not so long ago death would have been a relief.

But over the past week she’d lived with a group of mutants in what was certainly a chaotic mess, but also as close to what she imagined family to be as she’d ever seen. And she’d liked it. Each day she’d reminded herself she was just there to kill Logan, that she shouldn’t get attached. Now, with her head bent, waiting for the death blow, X felt a sudden surge in her chest of wanting to stay, of wanting to know more about living with people like her. More about living in general.

She should be killed, she saw that now. She was dangerous, and had been manipulated so many different ways. Had the document she’d seen been a fake to set her on a mission to kill Logan? How deep did the deception go? If she was taken out of the equation, then it wouldn’t matter. No more people would be hurt.

But knowing what she was leaving, she hurt. And she flinched as the blow came. And went. And she was still looking at the ground, blinking. ”What?” She watched her hair flutter to the ground, and then looked up at Logan, confused. Her eyes stung, an unfamiliar sensation, and she realized she was crying. She didn’t know what to do, or what to say. Everything had been focused on a mission, a mission based on a lie, and she still thought it would be better to die. But she wanted to live.

”Okay,” she said, wiping at her eyes with the back of her hand. ”But they will come for me… and I do not want anyone else to get hurt…” What Logan said next may have been reluctant, may have been the words of a man who’d already had a too long day and just needed a quiet drink, but X-23 felt them in her gut.

”If they come for you again, we’ll stop them together. That’s what family does.”

”Family?”

She was his clone. She knew that, but that didn’t make them family, just biologically connected. He hadn’t wanted or asked for someone like her. He owed her nothing. She’d tried to kill him. She wanted to protest, but looking at his face he wasn’t giving her the look of a man who would brook much protesting. She understood. Once she’d decided something, it was decided. Made sense he was the same way.

”If you are staying then I am staying,” she said, standing up straight, her eyes drying. ”But we should not wait for them to come to us, Logan. They will make more of me. They need to be stopped.” She nodded once quickly and started toward the mansion where she saw Ms. Munroe already going inside with the boy. ”We can rest tonight and then start tomorrow. You and I can destroy Hydra.”

**********

Ororo held the door open for Kyle as she looked back at Logan and X-23. It hadn’t gone as planned, and she knew Logan would chew her out later, but it had gone… maybe as well as could be hoped for. She had wanted to step in as soon as the fight had started, but her intuition had told her that the ferals needed to settle this their own way. That if she stopped it, it might start up worse later. Not that she wouldn’t apologize to Logan later. She’d make sure his room had a sixpack or two of cold beer waiting for him.

“Come on inside Kyle. As you’ve seen, things can get exciting here, but here you’ll be accepted for who you are.”

Logan looked at the conviction coursing across the girl's face. She was staunch and adamant, a quality they had in common, and while she talked about needing to stop Hydra, Logan crossed his arms and listened. When she finished, he frowned and shook his head.

"Hydra won't be stopped by one feral clawing their way through, let alone two."

His arms dropped and he walked over to pick up his hat. He put it back on and looked up at the enormous mansion. He couldn't remember the last time he stayed at some place so big in the last few weeks. He was used to dirty hotel rooms, broken couches, or nature itself. Charles's home seemed extravagant, and every time he walked into the place, he felt his presence would dirty it up.

"This place houses mutants. Telepaths, weather controllers, ferals. Everyone here is working together to grow and help each other." He looked at her. "A buncha mutants with different powers working together. Getting stronger. Becoming a team. Does that sound like something Hydra stands a chance against?"

He didn't want to give her the answer--that she should wait until a group was ready to fight alongside her. He wanted her to come to that answer herself and realize she'd need more than just him.

"Hydra may be making more of you, but then we'll stop them too with our friends. Hell, let them create more of you. You came around, right? Who says they won't?" Friends. That was a foreign word out of his mouth. Same as a family. Seemed like it was using all kinds of f words today. "The faster these kids are trained, the faster Hydra will go down. So let's wait before we make sure Hydra suffers."

He rolled his shoulders.

"Just like you made me." He was speaking a compliment. She really sliced him in that fight.

X didn’t know the myth of the hydra, that cutting off one head only resulted in two more growing in its stead, but having spent the first twelve years of her life in a Hydra lab, she knew how the organization operated. She knew they operated on backup plans of backup plans. She knew that going to the facility she escaped from and tearing it to shreds would do little to stop them. She knew this even as she spoke to Logan of going the next day to destroy them.

But they could destroy that facility. And it would be a start.

”We could do a lot of damage… “ But Logan was thinking bigger than that. He was thinking of taking out all of Hydra. And for that… ”Yes, a team would be better, but only those who want to. Who know how dangerous it is and still want to go.” Her expression darkened and she considered Logan, leaning her head to one side.

”It is not your fault, like I thought, but how come you did not go back? How come you did not stop them before… before they made me?”

She nodded at his assessment that they should both focus on training the students at the school. She and Logan were fighters, but the kids weren’t. She’d seen that the first night she’d arrived. But together they could make them fighters, fighters to make Hydra suffer. Like she’d made… X-23 glanced away from him in shame. ”I am sorry about that. I will not be…” She thought for a moment and the corner of her mouth quirked up. ”A little shit anymore.” She was quiet a moment, and then noting how important his hat was to him added, ”I would like a hat too.” Walking with him she pointed to where the boy had gone in the mansion. ”And one for him.”

"Because I didn't know," Logan frowned. That's all he needed to say. His words were laced with contempt, regret, pity, and annoyance. He made his way to the back steps of the mansion and stopped, taking a brief whiff of the air. He wished this place was in Canada. The chilled air, the forest greens, the strange sweet-scent that pockmarked the country like bad acne, that was true nature. Here everything smelled... sanitized. Unnatural. He was sure he was smelling the oil from the defenses or the stench of hot wire from who knows what, but at least there was that underlying smell of nature thanks to the woods and lake.

"Good. Because I don't like little shits," Logan replied, again walking. His hand was on the doorknob when X-23 spoke about a hat. He turned toward her, scowl in place, wrinkle on his brow, and a persistent frown on his lips.

"This is my hat." The definitive nature of his voice let the underlying threat be known--a warning if she thought to even try his on. "You're not two where you need someone to be holding your hand. If you want one, get one." It really was that easy. Didn't get the kids get a stipend of some sort? A few bucks for good grades or something?

Shit. He could hear the calls from Bayville already. Your clone just tried to kill the principal. And kicked a sink as it shattered. And screamed, 'I WILL FUCKING END YOU' to her math teacher when she failed her test. Could pick her up and never bring her back? Thanks!

"I need a drink," he mumbled under his breath as he opened the door.

As the door opened, the two living weapons would be confronted by the immediate view of one Kitty Pryde.

Her hair left in her natural waves. She wore a dark red vest over a red and white, horizontal striped tube top, and high waisted, pale denim bell-bottoms, and a pair of tope flipflops. Why? Because God Spare the Child. And she was sick of her winter wardrobe, and maybe had smoked a (medicinal, I swear) bowl at some point.

She'd fallen back as the door opened against her weight, shoving her out of the way. Clearly she'd been crouched against it, trying to eavesdrop on the happenings. Noah had sent her a text about X going total Patrick Bateman on the famed Wolverine that Xavier said would be returning to the estate with a new recruit, so all the students would get to meet him. Apparently X tried to eat the new kid or something? But he was totally fine?

Naturally, Kitty ghosted down to the main floor just in time to see Storm carting the new one off, assuring her 'Kyle' would be fine, and she'd get a proper introduction after the commotion was settled. But leave it to Kitty, a mix of boredom and nosiness, to try and see what was going on with X.

Though X was quickly getting this reputation that people should just leave her be, that she could be dangerous to everyone... Kitty just didn't really seemed too worried about all that, as indicated by their initial, hectic introduction. It was kinda hilarious that X's first steps into the mansion were being pulled into her room on the second floor. But while everyone seemed to ... afraid of her, Kitty was just like, 'You want to try my Poptart?'

Finding her balance and which way was up again, Kitty rolled back onto her ass end, pancaked on the floor for a moment, and looked up at Stoic and More Stoic.

"Uh. Hey. I don't want a hat." She cringed her whole face, "Sorry."

OOC: INFILTRATION! Hope you don't mind...

”Or because you did not want to know,” she muttered under her breath. It wasn’t fair of her, but she guessed that neither her or Logan had any expectations of ‘fairness’ in life. Still… ”Sorry,” she growled, more growl than apology. ”When you see what they did there… you might understand why I wanted to kill you when I thought you were responsible.”

Most of her life her sense of smell had been dulled by living in a bleached out concrete box. Compared to the clinical smells of the Hydra facility, the mixed urban smells around the mansion were a feast. And the smells of the students - the pheromones, the scent of their joy, fear, anger, and lust - she liked it, even if she needed to run to the woods to clear her nose once in awhile.

She nodded quickly at his affirmation that he didn’t like little shits. Logan didn’t like a lot of talking, she could tell that, but she also had so many questions. She’d gone from never knowing anyone anything like her to meeting a man who was her, just a man, and much older, and grumpy. Though her trying to kill him might have something to do with that last part. Still, did he have to be so irritable?

”I know it is your hat!” she snapped, her eyes narrowing and her nostrils flaring wide. ”I am not going to try to take it I was just saying I like it! I will get one for the boy and me, you do not have to do anything!” She swiped a hand in front of her as if pushing away his stupidity. She was unaware that her claws were halfway out. ”I am not good at this talking with people thing is all.” His comment about her acting like she was two cut deep and it silenced her. Hadn’t he said they were family? She withdrew herself and her claws, just following him up to the door quietly. But when he muttered about needing a drink her temper flared again and she jumped in front of him, leaning in with her chin stuck out.

”You must not like yourself much because you are a little shit too. Nobody ever held my hand at all. When I was two I was experimented on and taught to endure pain. And I do not understand why you even want to teach here if kids being kids make you so miserable.” She took a quick breath. ”I also do not understand why you want a drink when our healing factor keeps us from being affected by alcohol.” She suddenly smelled Kitty and turned around to see the other girl on the floor. She waved as if she hadn’t just been raging at Logan. ”Oh hi Kitty.”
