Welcome to X-Men: Unhinged Evolution!

We are an alternate universe X-Men: Evolution roleplaying game that accepts canon/original characters and fun, creative writers. The time is set before season 1.

Mutants are not yet known to the public, but when superpowers are in the hands of hormonal teenagers who knows how long that will last. Professor Xavier is doing his best to delay the process by homing these young mutants and teaching them to control their powers. Magneto and Mystique are doing something similar.

So far, the only mutants living at the Xavier Institute are Ororo and Logan, whereas the Brotherhood of Bayville Boarding House is virtually unoccupied.
Who will be next? Who will be the X-Men? Who will be the Brotherhood?

You decide.

Happy roleplaying!

Several minutes ago, all Noah wanted to do was see a frozen lake for the first time. Now, all he wanted to do was go back to the mansion and up to his room where he could crawl into his nice, warm bed and curl up under his nice, warm covers. There was no place he’d rather be, but he couldn’t get there soon enough. The worst part of it was that he lacked snow boots, forced to walk through the deep snow in his sneakers, which were now soaked.

Why can't I fly like Laurie? Or teleport like Clarice? Or have some other mutant power that would help me get to get inside faster? whined Noah mentally as he tried to brave the cold and ignore the stiff pain in his face as best as he could. “Hate the cold, hate the cold, hate the cold,” he muttered under his breath, which he could see quite perfectly, over and over again, his lips trembling.

Wearing only a jean jacket, a Bayville High sweatshirt, a t-shirt and athletic sweatpants, maybe if he had a snow coat he would've made it all the way to the lake without bailing. But he didn't own such a thing, born and raised in Florida where it was rarely cold and literally never snowed.

Oh, how he missed Florida right now. Not necessarily the people, but the place. It was beautiful in comparison. The warm climate. The palm trees. The beach... Oh, how he missed the beach.

Imagining himself back home only helped for so long before he felt the frigid wind and rush of snowflakes whip at his face again, bringing him back to reality.

“Why is it so freakin' cold!?” Noah bellowed, shivering wildly in a desperate attempt to warm himself up. Oddly enough, it worked, almost immediately feeling the heat rise to his cheeks and return to his toes.

Noah quirked a brow and looked up, confused. Snow continued to fall from the sky, but no longer could it reach him as though an invisible force-field surrounded his entire body, even his feet. Noah looked down and widened his eyes in amazement at how the snow pushed itself away from him with every step he took. "Whoa."

It had been cold in the days he's arrived in New York, but it hadn't snowed until he'd awoke to it that day. Better yet, school was cancelled...apparently, they couldn't open the place where there was snow, which was silly, but he didn't care. He was happy to see the sheet of white outside and hurried to meet it.

The wolf in boy's clothing tossed open the back doors and hurried out into the inches of snow. He tipped his head toward the wind and filled his chest with the crisp, cold air. He would have done better with a layer of fur, but his blood would keep him from freezing so it didn't really matter. He was used to the cold weather of Canada, this felt like home.

Canting his head, he caught the sound of a voice calling out from down past the covered pool, toward the forest. He found Noah's trail easily and followed the track of muddled snow. His claws extended, to aid in his maneuvering the deeper banks. He got distracted a few times by flakes falling from the sky which were mesmerizing to watch, and then by a squirrel which raced passed him. He couldn't help himself but to chase it, for once not really caring if he caught it, just enjoying the run,

He darted passed Noah where the other boy was engrossed in his new trick, skidding to a stop. The squirrel leaped into a tree and gloated at him with a twitch of it's tail. To which Kyle grabbed a handful of snow and threw it toward the fuzzy little jerk. Then he turned toward Noah. "Hello water-boy," he greeted to the familiar boy, trying to remember his social niceties. While Kyle could identify many people by their scents, actual names were a trickier subject. They were hard to remember, so Kyle used the kids at the Institute's powers to identify them.

”Why is it so freakin’ cold!?”

X-23 looked up from the book she was reading - Raising Adolescents in an Accelerated Age - she was trying to both understand herself and the strange behavior of the teens around her - and squinted to look out the window of the mansion library. When the announcement of a snow day had sent most of the kids either squealing outside or shuffling back to their rooms, she’d realized she had a whole day to read what she wanted. The curriculum at Bayville High had done little to impress her.

Why was Noah yelling about the cold? Didn’t he know about the local weather patterns? And snow could only exist at below freezing. The glass fogged up as she looked closer and she unlocked the window and popped it open. A blast of snow and cold air hit her in the face, making her blink, but it was not intolerable.

It was actually kind of nice.

She’d already gained a reputation for not using doors, so nobody would’ve been surprised to see her lower herself down from the window, kick off, and do a flip to land with a crunch in the snow below. She’d left the library window open so she could get back inside, not thinking about the cost of heating or the result of snow blowing into the room.

There was Noah yelling about the snow, and somehow driving it away from himself. And there was Kyle throwing snow at a squirrel. She smiled at the sight of him, feeling an odd pricking in her chest at the realization that she’d barely talked to him since the fight. Curious, she stalked toward the two boys, edging along some arborvitae and popping out a few feet away. She’d been downwind, but Kyle might have heard her.

”That is Noah,” she said matter-of-factly, within hearing of the water mutant. She still got the feeling the older teen didn’t like her much and her fight with Logan in the yard probably hadn’t done much to change his views. She stood watching the two of them, wearing just a pair of jeans, a my-little-pony shirt, and some converse sneakers she’d gotten at a thrift shop. Kitty said the best clothes were at thrift shops. Cocking her head to one side she asked, ”What are you doing Noah?”

So maybe my powers aren't so useless, after all, Noah thought, a small smile forming on his dry lips as he stared down at his now-dry sneakers. Seconds later, the space between him and the snow started to shrink, allowing the snow to inch its way toward him. No! Quickly, Noah balled his hands into fists within the single pocket of his hooded sweatshirt and wrinkled his brows. It was working up until the moment Kyle appeared out of nowhere, breaking his concentration. Noah inhaled a sharp breath to squelch his frustration, trying not to look bothered by the fact the snow was touching him again. "Oh, hey Kyle," he greeted the dog-like mutant with a bit of a forced smile. Unlike Noah, he didn't seem to mind the snow at all; in fact, he looked as though he had been rolling around in the stuff. Noah wouldn't put it past him...

Noah jumped at the sudden sound of X's voice, then continued to shiver miserably. Where did she come from? He looked left and right to make sure no one else would pop out of nowhere, his teeth chattering. The frigid, snow-filled air didn't seem to bother her, either. Probably had something to do with her healing factor. Lucky. "I was trying to keep warm," he answered, a hint of disdain in his voice. Really, though, he was just jealous. "Watch." Eager to show off his new talent and warm the fuck up, Noah clenched his fists and furrowed his brow in concentration once more, only this time his powers worked a little too well.

Brown eyes went wide in surprise as he watched the snow around him launch itself in every which direction... right at Kyle and X. "Oops, sorry," Noah quickly apologized, a guilty smile playing upon his face as he tried to hold back his laughter. "I didn't mean to, I swear."

Kyle has smelled the proximity of the clawed girl, Logan's pup. The two shared a similar pack-scent, so it wasn't a far leap to put together that they were blood. The particulars of their kinship hardly mattered, at least to him. When she came out of stalking, making her presence known, Kyle instinctively lowered himself into a crouch, allowing the smaller figure room to stand taller, as her status in the hierarchy was greater than his.

"Noah," he repeated, accepting the assistance, and maybe by repeating, it would stick, one day. He too glanced back toward Noah who had the snow in his control...well, sort of. Control might not quite be the word since the next thing any of them knew, he'd sent a wave of it splattering at X and Kyle.

The boy shook off a good deal of the fluffy white flakes and was compelled by a sound that he hadn't made before, in his damaged, tenuous memory; he laughed. It was a sound too human to have made in the confines of the pack and never trigged in his time captured by the Empire.

"Do it again!" he prompted the older teen, this time, preparing himself a little by fully crouching, his hands splayed into the snow drift. He would try to dodge it this time, or maybe just leap through it, or return the 'attack' in kind. But, he was ready, for something.

It wasn’t her mutation that protected her from the cold, it was her conditioning. Not the type of conditioning any child should have to endure. When you stop crying, and stop shivering X-23, then you can come out of the freezer. She had stopped crying, and shivering, and part of her had remained cold ever since.

”Trying can work,” she said to Noah, ”or you could use a coat… I could get you one…”. She tried a smile. She’d been working on them in the mirror. The result still looked like she was gritting her teeth and stretching her lips over them, but it was better than her first few attempts. She wanted Noah to like her, to not think she was going to be the cause of hurt.

She looked over at Kyle and nodded toward him, noting how he lowered his height. She was aware of pack behavior even if she didn’t experience it instinctively. It was uncomfortable to her that he would be submissive when Logan was like a father to them both, but it seemed to make him feel better.

”Watch!” Noah’s words drew her attention just in time for a wall of snow to hit her in the face. She did have instincts for this and she threw her arms up, growling as she danced back. Many times her handlers would wait until she was relaxed and then unleash an attack on her. Was Noah testing her like this? She saw he didn’t intent to fight and rose back up from her fighter’s stance, head cocked to the side as she looked at Noah with confusion. He didn’t mean to? But he’d told them to watch.

Then Kyle laughed and despite the cold X felt a warmth inside. It was a good sound. ”Oh… it is a joke…” She was still standing next to an arborvitae, its greens hidden by a thick blanket of snow. Keeping her static smile on her face, X whirled around backward, hitting the tree with a spinning slap kick that knocked all the snow toward Noah and Kyle. When she looked at the other two students covered with snow her stiff smile melted into an actual giggle.

”I did not mean to either.”

Kurt watched the snow coming down outside, and paced in front of the window to see if other mutants would be out in the snow to play. While he badly wanted to go out and build something...anything...out of snow, he also didn’t want to be seen as any more of a freak than he already was.

”Look at zee...blue boobie out in the snow playing with himself.” No, he wouldn’t go out until he saw other people out there. Kurt really wanted to fit in at the mansion, and he couldn’t give others any reason not to like him beyond the disadvantage his skin, eyes and tail already put him under.

”Nein, you ninny. Plenty of snow, plenty of time.” He laid down on his bed to try to relax and not worry about the school work he needed to catch up on. He really shouldn’t be even thinking about going to play in the snow, but try as he might, he couldn’t concentrate on the paper he needed to write on how the fear of the German people leading up to World War II and the holocaust was the same fear experienced by mutants from humans. He had to write about how mutants could change that fear, and all Kurt could think about was frozen water falling from the sky.

Getting up, he started to pace again until he saw a group of kids outside, and one boy used his ability to throw snow at the others. ”Yes! Es ist Zeit für Spaß!”

Grabbing his heavy jacket, Kurt went back to the window, found the spot he wanted to 'port to, and….

{BAMF} http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii152/sarik_vaster/Xmen%20Smily%20GIFs/Nightcrawler.gif

Kurt disappeared in puff of blue smoke and appeared between Laura and the other kids as Laura kicked the snow covered bush. ”Mein Gott!!!” Kurt shivered as his back was covered head to foot in snow. ”Das ist KALT!” Realizing he was not painting himself in a very favorable light, his tail started to brush the snow off his back as he said, ”Ich bin...I am sorry. I still have trouble resorting to German when I am excited or surprised. How are you all? Are you as excited about the snow as I am? I haven’t seen so much snow since Germany.”

I did not mean to either

Kurt turned to the girl and his tail swept out to shake her hand before Kurt could pull it back. ”Hello, I am Kurt and it is ok. Snow melts. It just surprised me is all.” He held out three digit hand to shake Laura’s hand.

1 - It is time to have some fun.
2 - My God!!!
3 - It is COLD!
